Providence Academy

Providence Academy is a private, independent school that provides a classical education in the Catholic tradition. The school had an outdated website with various bugs and issues. Parents found it hard to navigate and use. The school hired Spinnaker Media Group to redesign their website, and I was put on the project.

As the copywriter at Spinnaker broke down the website information, I started designing wireframe concepts for the new website. The main issue with Providence Academy’s old website was the amount of items in a drop down menu. There was no organization, which often caused confusion. I split up the navigation into 8 main categories with 3-5 sub-categories.

For the design, I followed their branding guidelines, but experimented with layout. I made each category have their own layout design for fast recognition. I then used large imagery to help guide the user’s eyes. I then created large buttons for pdfs to help parents easily find and download information. Finally, I created simple forms that work across platforms.

Overall, I loved creating a school website, for most often lack creativity and feature complex navigation. I enjoyed applying my navigation and design ideas to make a user-friendly school website.
